Charlene – Chapter Eighteen

I took a long pull on my Newport cigarette and blew the air out hard and fast. I walked around in yet another circle, pacing the floor. I looked at the clock for the one- hundredth time, which was probably the number of times I had walked in circles. I looked at my cell phone for the thousandth time. Still, no calls or contact from Troy’s ass. I told him the last time we met not to fucking play with me. I had a real strong gut feeling that he was going to do some dumb shit, like punk out of our deal. I stubbed out the last cigarette from my pack and tossed the crushed pack onto the floor.

“This is really not fucking cool Troy! You are playing with me!” I growled to the air. I looked over at my cousin, Dray, and he was staring at me like I was the biggest liar in the fucking world.

“What? He said he would call me! I can’t control him!” I snapped, rolling my eyes at Dray. Who the fuck was he to be questioning me anyway? All of this was making me uneasy, especially since I knew the real plan.

I took to pacing again. This motherfucker, Troy, must’ve thought I was playing games with his ass. He had not returned my fucking phone calls and it was down to the wire. It was time for me to put the pressure on this nigga. I was fucking angry now. It seemed to me that Troy thought I was one big fat joke that could be used and thrown away. Either he came to the table with the fifty thousand dollars for the hit or I was going to have his ass fucked up by Dray and his boys. That was that.

Dray was down for it from the minute the words had left my mouth. I decided not to get Joe, my fat ass client, involved. I came to my senses shortly after the thought had hit me. There was no way that soft ass nigga would’ve convinced Troy he was a hit man. First, Joe was fat and big, and scared of his own shadow. Secondly, with something like putting a hit on somebody’s life, you couldn’t be too careful with who to trust, and I already didn’t trust a damn soul. Where I grew up, trust was for suckers and fool ass niggas. I could visualize Joe singing like a bird to the cops if anything went wrong.

After the whole Joe and fake hit man idea went out the window, I thought long and hard and finally decided to really go through with getting a hit man for Troy to have Trice killed. Initially, I was just jerking Troy’s chain and acting like I had someone to do the hit on Trice. I didn’t have anyone at first, nor was I looking for anyone. My initial plan was to get the upfront payment from Troy and bounce, leaving his ass high and dry and in the dust.
